  • Students of St. Teresa’s CGHSS Bring Cheers to Patients Through Therapeutic Music

By NE Reporter on September 25, 2018

    KOCHI:
A soulful performance by the students of St. Teresa’s Convent Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam, led by their music teacher Stella Sebi at the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme at the Government General Hospital, showed that schools can nurture one’s passion for both music and charity while teachers can be a beacon of light for those who have set their mind on it.
The students from grade six to tenth, led by their teacher Stella, had rehearsed for days to present the enthralling performance at the hospital for the patients, bystanders and medical staff.
The programme, a joint initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, aims to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
The 235th episode featured eight student-singers — Pavithra Anil, Abhirami M, Krishnapriya T H, Lena Shyju, Khadeeja M, Abhirami Pradeep, Philomina Ardra and Varsha Biju, who gave a heart-warming performance that was lustily cheered by the crowd gathered at the hospital premises.
Another group of eight students joined the show with a spirited dance performance, which followed the rendition of songs. This performance was also enthusiastically lapped up by the audience.
‘Lokham Muzhuvan Sukam Pakaran’, rendered by Khadeeja and Abhirami, set the tone and tenor for the musical feast. In all, 15 Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil songs, mostly melodies, were sung at the musical spectacle.
The student-singers, apart from their academic pursuits, have devotion for charitable works and they collect money to help the cancer patients for their treatment. The money collected by them is handed over to their headmistress, who forwards it to the authorities concerned for the benefit of cancer patients.
On the occasion, St. Teresa’s CGHSS Headmistress Sister Margie presented a cheque to Dr. Asha K John, Deputy Superintendent of the General Hospital, Ernakulam.
The popular therapeutic music show which began in 2014 has showcased various professional and amateur artists as well as celebrities in its steady journey.
