  • World Food Day Observation; Integrated Efforts Can Make the City Hunger Free

By NE Reporter on October 23, 2018

    KOCHI:
On inaugurating the World food day observation and photography exhibition held at General Hospital, Ernakulum, A.P.M Muhammad Haneesh, managing director, KMRL, said; “integrated efforts from the part of various voluntary organizations and associations can make the city hunger free”.

Jointly organized by Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kochi branch, Photojournalists Forum, Undo pothichor.com, General Hospital Dietary department and KMM College, Thrikkakkara, under the Jaibharath educational foundation, the food day observation put forward the theme ‘Zero Hunger Kochi’.

The 10th phase of Haritham Jeevanam, the organic farming project of GH, also got started as part of the food day. Dr. A Anitha, superintend, GH, who presided over the ceremony said that;” vegetable gardens should be an integral part of our kitchens. We have to wipe out both obesity and nutritional deficiency from the society.” Dr. M.I Junaid Rahman, president IMA, Kochi, delivered keynote address.

Campaigns have to be conducted to make the excess food to the needy. More than 1000 kilogram of food is being wasted in Kochi city every day from the restaurants and catering centers. And the same city witnesses a lot of people starving for a day’s meal. The photo exhibition by Photojournalist forum based on the theme Hunger and Food turned out to be an eye opener to those who show unnecessary luxury in food.

First, second and third prize winners of the photo exhibition will be given cash awards of 5000, 3000 and 2000 respectively by IMA. Students from KMM college gave 600 food packs to the hungry ones in Kochi city as part of food day observation. Justin K Abraham, founder of Undo Pothichor, Maya Lakshmi, senior dietician, Dr. P V Sumithran, Principal, KMM College, Dr. Haneesh Meerasa, secretary, Prakash Elamakkara, convener, photojournalist forum, and Manu Shelly, treasurer, attended the ceremony.
