As part of the state-wide 90-day intensive “Drug-free Kerala” campaign launched by Vimukthi Mission under the State Excise Department, a one-day football tournament was organised in Sulthan Bathery, in association with Football Academy, SulthanBathery.
FC Meenangadi lifted the cup while FC Ambalavayal emerged the runner-up in tourney that saw eight football clubs from Sulthan Bathery Taluk vying for honours. M. Ansari Beegu, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Wayanad, gave away the Vimukthi Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 7,501 to the winners and Rs 5,001 and trophy to the runners-up.
The tournament was inaugurated by P.L. Sabu, Chairman, Municipality, Sulthan Bathery, at Municipal Mini Stadium. Elsy, Ward Councillor, presided over the kick-off function. The players were introduced to Jimmy Joseph, Manager-In-Charge, Vimukthi, on the occasion. The football tourney formed part of a series of sporting and cultural events held in different parts of the state by Vimukthi to mobilise public support for the anti-drug and de-addiction campaign.
