  • Will Oppose the Government Move for Disinvestment of LIC: N.K. Premachandran, MP

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
    The attempts of the Union Government to sell off the shares of LIC of India will be strongly resisted, stated N.K. Premachandran, MP, while inaugurating the 45 th All India Biennial General Council of the Federation of LIC Class I Officers’ Associations on 24 th February 2020 in RDR Convention Hall.

    Government of India had contributed 100 crores in two stages to LIC of India, and during the last fiscal, this PSU which is a role model by world standards, had donated Rs. 2610 crores as our dividend to the Government. The MP also pointed out that selling of shares of LIC of India is only the first step towards privatisation.

    He also informed the house that even while The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was presenting the Government proposal for disinvestment of LIC, there was discrete opposition even from some members of the Treasury Benches. As President of 15 lakh strong Agents’ Federation, he would be in the forefront in opposing this Government tootha and nail.

    O. Rajagopal, MLA, released the Souvenir “Our Voice” 2018 – 20 and felicitated the meeting. About 500 delegates and observers representing the 23000 strong Officer community are participating in the two day Genera Council.

    Baburao Humraskar, President of the Federation, presided over the meeting, and S. Rajkumar, General Secretary of the Federation, welcomed the gathering. R. Palanisamy, Regional Manager (Personnel), Southern Zonal Office, Chennai, Deepa Sivadasan, Sr. Divisional Manager, LIC of India, Thiruvananthapuram, Vivek Singh, Secretary General, NFIFWI and Shrikant Mishra, General Secretary, AIIEA, addressed the inaugural session.

    V. Ethiran, Zonal Secretary, Southeren Zone, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The meeting will come to an end with the election of new officebearers for the next tenure.
