JENHABAD:
A ‘Matka Fod’ (pot-breaking) event in Bihar’s Jehanabad district turned violent on Sunday evening, leaving six people, including two police personnel, injured. The incident occurred in the Naya Tola locality under the jurisdiction of the Town police station.
According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajeev Kumar Singh, the clash erupted after a dispute over breaking the Matka with a baton. The heated argument between two groups quickly escalated into stone pelting.
“Around half a dozen people, including two police personnel, suffered injuries in this clash,” SDPO Singh said, adding that the incident occurred at 6:30 pm. The police, though present at the venue, initially struggled to control the situation but managed to disperse the crowd using a mild cane charge.
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital for treatment, while police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the violence. In the wake of the incident, heavy police and Bihar military police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further unrest.
“We have brought the situation under control and deployed additional forces to ensure there is no further escalation,” SDPO Singh stated.
Meanwhile, a similar violent clash broke out in Bihar’s Siwan district on the same day. In Izmali village under Badharia police station, a group traveling from Gopalganj to collect donations for a temple was attacked near a mosque, leading to injuries and tensions in the area.
Authorities in both districts are working to restore peace while ensuring strict action against those responsible for the violence.
