  • Students of MES College of Engineering and Technology Regale Audiences at Biennale Music

By NE Reporter on April 6, 2017

    KOCHI:
‘Paadam Pootha Kaalam’, a lilting song from Malayalam movie Chitram, reverberated through the premises of Ernakulam Government General Hospital here today as Akhil Raj, an engineering student, rendered the song in his scintillating voice at the ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF).
Akhil Raj, who is pursuing mechanical engineering at the MES College of Engineering and TechnologyMES Students, Kunnukara, was a part of the students group from the college that dished out an outstanding performance at the all-Wednesday music show to enrapture the audiences comprising patients, hospital staff and bystanders. The students gave the performance as an initiative of the National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of the college.
Jasna V S, Ann Mary Augustine (both Electronics and Communication), Vidhya V V (Computer Science), Martin Netto (Electrical and Electronics), Gazel Varghese (Civil Engineering), and Sudeesh E (Mechanical Engineering) were the other singers whose renditions enlivened the hospital atmosphere.
Vidhya sang tunefully the song, ‘Peeliyezhum Veeshi Vaa’, from the 1986 Mammootty-starrer Poovinu Puthiya Poonthennal (originally sung by the K S Chitra). Jasna followed it up with ‘Poomaname Oru Raga Megham’ from the movie Nirakootu, yet another Mammootty film.
In all, the students sang ten Malayalam songs carefully chosen from films of yesteryears, which dispatched the listeners into raptures. Jasna concluded the programme by singing an all-time favourite, ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ from the 1992 blockbuster ‘Roja’.
The programme saw in attendance the college’s NSS programme officers Jicky Jose and Ajasudheen, and Academic Co-ordinator Ayyappan Pillai.
“We organized the programme as a social activity under the National Service Scheme. It was helpful for both the students, who participated in a selfless service, and the patients who derived solace from the lively performance,” said Shri Ajasudheen, NSS Programme Officer. “I am deeply
impressed by such an initiative of the KBF,” he added.
This week marked the 165th episode of the ‘all-Wednesday’ music show, an initiative of the KBF, in association with the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lake Shore Hospital and Research Centre Limited, to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
