  • AIADMK General Council Meet Remove Sasikala from Party Post

By NE Reporter on September 12, 2017

    CHENNAI:
AIADMK General Council meeting expelled Sasikala and named Jayalalithaa as the eternal general secretary of the party.
The AIADMK decided to name late J Jayalalithaa as the permanent general secretary of the party in the general council meeting which was its first since two factions led by CM E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam merged last month. Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dinakaran was also been expelled from the party.
A defiant Dinakaran rejected his expulsion while describing EPS-led AIADMK as a ‘camp of cheats’.
The Madras High Court had on Monday upheld an order of a single judge dismissing a plea to stay AIADMK general council and executive committee meeting convened by Chief Minister K Palaniswami-led faction.
Dinakaran loyalists reject ‘invite’ to attend AIADMK MLAs meet convened by CM K Palaniswami. The removal of Sasikala and Dinakaran has taken the political crisis in Tamil Nadu into the next level at a time when the government doesn’t have the majority.
While the general council announced late J Jayalalithaa as the permanent general secretary, paving way to cancel the appointment of Sasikala as the party chief, the powers of general secretary has been handed over to a steering committee consisting a convenor and a joint convenor. O Panneerselvam will be the Chief Coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will be the joint coordinator.
The General Council meeting has also cancelled the appointment of TTV Dinakaran and all the appointments made by him.
Meanwhile, DMK leader Stalin met Governor and demanded immediate floor test in Tamil Nadu.
In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, which has one seat vacant (R K Nagar, represented by late J Jayalalithaa), the AIADMK has 134 MLAs, excluding the speaker. The opposition DMK has 89 members, its allies Congress eight and IUML one.
The Dhinkaran camp has been pressing for the ouster of Palaniswami as the Chief Minister since the factions led by him and his predecessor O Panneerselvam merged on August 21. A group of 19 MLAs loyal to Dhinakaran had met Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao on August 22 and expressed lack of confidence in the Chief Minister, prompting opposition parties to demand a floor test in the Assembly.
