New Delhi: Anju Bobby George, a former athlete who won a bronze medal 13 years ago at the 2003 World Athletics Championships has been made a committee member of Khelo India Project by the ministry of sports and youth affairs under the Union government led by Narendra Modi. Badminton Coach Pullela Gopichand is the other sportsperson appointed to the committee.

Anju has been selected by the BJP Government led by Narendra Modi at a time when she raised serious allegations against the LDF-led government in Kerala.

BJP, which is desperately trying to woo the minorities, epecially the Chistians, as part of consolidating its base in Kerala, has chosen Anju for this post as a bait.

Anju had resigned her post as the President of Kerala State Sports Council when the Sports minister E P Jayarajan allegedly questioned her air travels from Bangalore at the expense of the govt-funded sports council.

Anju, a nominee of the Syro-Malabar Catholic lobby in the former UDF government led by Oommen Chandy, was appointed President of the Sports Council seven months before the elections despite the fact that she lived outside Kerala.
