In a significant operation, Assam police have successfully intercepted a group of 20 youths attempting to form a new militant faction in the Kokrajhar-Chirang forests. The operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition .
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh announced that the police confiscated six automatic rifles , four single-shot rifles, three pistols with magazines, five No 36 HE grenades , 54 rounds of AK rifle ammunition , and nine rounds of pistol ammunition .
‘In Kokrajhar-Chirang forests, we have intercepted and brought out a group of 20 youths who had been trying to form a new militant group for the last three or four months. They have listened to reason and surrendered their weapons,’ GP Singh wrote on X. He added, ‘We strive to keep our state free of weapons and violence.’
Further investigation into the matter is underway, with more details expected to follow.
