  • Aster Medcity to Honour Families of Deceased Organ Donors

By NE Reporter on January 22, 2020

    KOCHI:
As a tribute to the deceased organ donors of the hospital, Aster Medcity will honour their immediate family members with ‘Gift of Life Family Cards’.

Addressing a media conference here, Cdr. Jelson Kavalakkatt, CEO, Aster Medcity, said that the ‘Gift of Life Family Cards’ would be presented to the parents, spouse and children of the deceased organ donors.

Cdr. Jelson Kavalakkatt said that the idea of privilege card for families of organ donors was proposed by Fr. Davis Chirammel, Founder, Kidney Federation of India, at the Organ Donation Day programmes organized by the hospital in November 2019. He said that Aster Medcity, which readily accepted the proposal, was privileged to present ‘Gift of Life Family Cards’ in a very short period.

The Organ Donation Day programmes, organised in association with Integrated Liver Care and ‘People Helping People’, the transplant patient support group, was the first ever attempt by the hospital to honour the deceased organ donors of the hospital.

“We consider this as a major milestone in achieving our vision of quality health care, and look forward to contribute more for the wellness of our patients. The ‘Gift of Life Family Cards would come along with a special privilege for the holders, so that they could enjoy special preferences during the course of their treatment at Aster Medicity. With this initiative Aster Medcity is fulfilling the commitment of the society towards the families of the deceased organ donors,” said Cdr. Jelson Kavalakkatt.

Fr. Davis Chirammel, Founder, Kidney Federation of India, said that the family members of deceased organ donors are the people who have taken brave decisions at a very crucial time. The decisions taken by them have given a new lease of life to many patients. He added that with this gesture, Aster Medcity has led the way in honouring deceased organ donors and their families.

The cardholders would be entitled for discount on OP and IP services and wellness packages, special priority for OP consultations and free parking facilities.

Dr. Mathew Jacob, Consultant, Hepatobiliary Transplant Surgeon, Integrated Liver Care, Aster Medcity, and Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, President, IMA Kochi, were also present in the media conference.
