KOCHI:
Living up to the reputation of his famed lyricist father, Kaithapram Deepankuran strung together an array of musical hits that served as a garland of solace to patients at Government General Hospital, Ernakulam.01
As son of vocalist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri who has penned quite a few popular numbers for Malayalam cinema, the young singer stuck to songs in his mother tongue even as he came out with a beautiful ditty in Hindi.
At the ‘Art and Medicine’ programme of Kochi Biennale Foundation this forenoon, Deepankuran began his rendition with ‘Sathyam Sivam Sundaram’ — a vivacious song he had originally sung for the Kunchacko Boban starrer movie with the same name 16 years ago.
The 114th edition of the all-Wednesday series organised in association with with Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra saw the musician going ahead with ‘Pramadavanam’, ‘Poothalam valam kaiyyilenthi’, ‘Oru pushpam mathram’, ‘Vrischika poonilave’ and the Hindi number ‘Oh duniya ke rakhwale’, evoking cheer in the gathering.
A trained classical singer like his father, the Kozhikode-raised youngster has sung in 16 Malayalam movies and has done music direction for five movies. Having completed his Masters in music production from UK, he continues to contribute to the world of entertainment.
Dr. Mohammed Ali, orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital and KBF research coordinator Bonny Thomas spoke on the occasion.
