The music band S P Orchestration, a motley group of singers drawn from diverse professional backgrounds, dished out a charming performance at the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ show organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) at the Government General Hospital here today.
Begun in 2014, Arts and Medicine, an all-Wednesday initiative of the KBF and Mehboob Memorial orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services), seeks to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
The 197th edition of the programme saw singers Eroor Subramanian, Sudharsnan K K, Sukrutha Unni and Abhirami Prince of the music band ‘S P Orchestration’ , Tripunithura (formed in 2006), offering the patients a bouquet of evergreen Malayalam songs .
Subramanian, the lead singer of the band, is also the Secretary of ‘NANMA’ (National Association of Malayalam Artists), Tripunithura area. Sudharsnan, an employee of the National Insurance, is a singer in the band as well as the regional president of PuKaSa-Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sangham, Tripunithura.
Sukrutha, one of the three female vocalists of the band, is the Rationing Inspector at Ernakulam Civil Supplies. Abhirami, an engineering graduate and now working in a private engineering firm, is also the part of the band.
“The happiness and contentment writ large on the faces of each one in the crowd is the divine reward which is above everything else that one can receive for the efforts at the show,” Subramanian said.
This week was an exclusive edition of Malayalam evergreen songs. Subramanian began with the rendition of the song, ‘Chandrakalabham Chaarthi’ , from the 1975 movie Kottaaram Vilkkaanundu, originally sung by K J Yesudas. The other singers followed with their share of fair renditions including three duets, two of which were sung by Subramanian and Abhirami duo and one by Subramanian and Sukrutha.
The duet ‘Astamudi Kaayalile’, originally sung by K J Yesudas and P Leela from the movie Manavaati, marked the end of the show that featured a total of 16 songs.
