  • Biennale Music: SUPPLYCO Singers Bring Musical Showers to General Hosp on I-Day

By NE Reporter on August 22, 2018

    KOCHI:
Torrential downpour was no dampener to the commitment of the singers of SUPPLYCO Club (Head office , Kochi), Cochin Sreeragam to bring cheer to the patients, bystanders and medical staff at the Government General Hospital here on the Independence Day as part of the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme of the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) on Wednesday.
Suiting the occasion, the programme featured several patriotic numbers including ‘Vande Mataram’, saluting the Mother land. The inclement weather did not deter the team from fulfilling the promise as the octet singers led by coordinator Sajeev Paul and manager , Hari Panangad, took to the stage in turns to render more and more songs, garnering generous applause from the audience.
A joint initiative of the KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, the all-Wednesday ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme seeks to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music. The show entered its 232nd episode this week.
The medley of songs chosen for the occasion also included some soulful ditties besides those welcoming the harvest festival of Onam that is round the corner. The group of four female and four male singers took turns to entertain the audience rendering songs in Malayalam , Hindi and Tamil with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra in the background offering their full instrumental support.
The SUPPLYCO staff rehearse their songs at intervals amid work and their intention to put on display their talent at the Biennale stage was to bring some relief to the patients through therapeutic music .
The team comprising Shaju M.S, Aji .S, Satyanath P.S, Arun Kumar, Jisu G. S, Usha M.K, Sukrita S.K, Arya S. Chandran and the guest singers, Cochin Azad and A. M. Haries, sung eighteen songs , which included a duet by Jisu and Sukrita and yet another by Jisu and Arun besides a group song which concluded the musical extravaganza.
“ We never thought that the weather conditions will be favourable for us to perform for the patients today, but the spirit with which our team performed was all indicative of the determination that its members nurture for the enjoyment of the crowd”, said Sajeev Paul , the coordinator of the team.
“The chance that we got to perform on this stage is precious and we thank the organisers for giving us this opportunity, ”, he added.
The mélange of songs began with Azad’s rendition of ‘Jahan Dal Dal’, a patriotic song by the legendary Mohammed Rafi, invoking the spirit of Independence Day, followed by ‘Vande Mataram’. The group song, ‘Poovili’ in the end welcomed Onam which is around the corner in all its pomp and glory.
