KOCHI:
A trio of music teachers and a pair of talented professional singers took over the Biennale stage awakening a spirit of music at the All-Wednesdays Arts and Medicine programme organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at the Government General Hospital here today.
Music teachers Beena Benny, Chandrika Janardhadhan and Milda Stanley joined singers Chandran and Anita Venugopal to present a bouquet of soothing melodies in the 215th episode of the programme. A joint initiative of the KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and sponsored by Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS), the weekly music show is aimed at bringing solace to patients at the hospital through therapeutic music and has found an appreciative audience in visitors and medical staffers as well.
Beena who was trained at Cochin Kalabhavan, has also been trained under Ramankutty Master.
“The innate passion for music is buried deep in one’s mind, and communicating our emotions and sentiments through music can be therapeutic. The immediate response that the singers get in the form of appreciation through applause and cheers from the crowd is very gratifying,” she said.
Milda began the music show with the Lord Ayyappa devotional song, “Thedi Varum Kannukalil’. The singers rendered 15 songs in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil, including duets by Chandran with Anita and Beena. Anita, who has received tutelage from Sridevi Teacher, and Chandran are both active performers with the ‘Sangam’ Arts Group.
