THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The peace meet attended by leaders of CPM and BJP has decided to take necessary steps to end the spreading of violence in the capital city.
The meeting was convened following the political violence which claimed one life. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, BJP State president Kummanam Rajashekaran, RSS Prantha Karyavahak Gopalankutty Master and O Rajagopal, MLA.
Pinarayi Vijayan said that the meeting decided to take necessary steps to create awareness among the party workers not to indulge in any violence further. An all party meeting will be convened on August 6 at Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the violent incidents.
The incident which happened at Thiruvananthapuram was unfortunate and the political workers will keep a vigil that such untoward incidents will not happen. Meetings will be held at Kannur and Kottayam to resolve the isssues there.
Kummanan Rajshekaran said that BJP and RSSS will support all efforts to maintain peace in the capital city. He pointed that there should freedom for organisations to function and also freedom of speech.
He alleged that the violent incidents which happened at Thiruvananthapuram was the failure of the police. She demanded that strick action should be taken against those who were involved in the violent incidents.
The BJP has called for a dawn-to-dusk in Kerala on Sunday after an RSS karyavah was hacked to death by a bike- and autorickshaw-borne gang last night in the suburbs of the state capital. Rajesh, a 34-year-old RSS activist, was rounded up and hacked to death even as he was returning from a neigbourhood shop after buying groceries for home.
Police have arrested eight people in connection with the murder. Among the arrested is Manikuttan, who police said has a criminal background and is a close neighbour of Rajesh.
A case had earlier been registered against Manikuttan for allegedly hurling crude bombs at a CPM local committee member’s house. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the recent political violence in the state and expressed his concern with the law and order situation.
Kerala Governor P Sathasivam summoned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss the law and order situation in the state. Sathasivam quoted Vijayan as saying that law-breakers would be dealt with sternly and that he would meet both state BJP President Kummanam Rajasekharan and the state RSS chief and make a public appeal for peace.
After the attack at the BJP headquarters, the residence of the son of CPM state Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was stoned. Police are maintaining a strict vigil and have clamped prohibitory orders for three days from July 28 after BJP’s Kerala unit office was vandalised and the house of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Bineesh Kodiyeri was attacked.
