  • Congress Flexes Muscle in Bihar with ‘Save the Constitution’ March Ahead of 2025 Polls

By NE Reporter on April 29, 2025

    PATNA:
As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections draw closer, the Congress party has launched a significant public outreach campaign, “Save the Constitution,” signaling its intent to play a pivotal role in the upcoming electoral battle.

On Tuesday, State Congress President Rajesh Kumar Ram spearheaded a large-scale march in Patna, demonstrating the party’s unwavering commitment to upholding constitutional values and asserting its presence within the Mahagathbandhan alliance.

The march, commencing from the Congress headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram, and culminating at Bas Ghat along Ashok Rajpath, witnessed a substantial turnout of Congress leaders and workers.

“Our primary objective is to safeguard the Constitution and thwart those who seek to undermine it,” declared Rajesh Kumar Ram.

Madan Mohan Jha, Congress Legislative Council leader in Bihar, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The core purpose of this march is to forge a deeper connection with the people of Bihar and disseminate awareness about the fundamental principles enshrined in our Constitution.”

Participants in the march carried a massive Tricolour, Congress flags, and chanted slogans championing the Constitution. The BJP emerged as the primary target of criticism during the event, particularly concerning issues such as the Waqf Act.

Political analysts interpret this march not only as a mobilization of public support but also as a strategic move within the Mahagathbandhan alliance. It is perceived as a potential attempt by the Congress to enhance its bargaining power for a greater share of seats in the upcoming elections.

Furthermore, the march is seen as a subtle message directed towards RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, the alliance’s prominent figure. The Congress leadership has notably refrained from endorsing Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Bihar Assembly elections.

Key figures like Krishna Allavaru, the state in-charge of the Congress, have publicly stated that the CM’s face will be determined post-election.

This march is part of a broader campaign strategy employed by the Congress, building upon party leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s earlier participation in the “Palayan Roko, Naukri Do Yatra,” which successfully drew significant crowds across Bihar and focused on the pressing issues of unemployment and youth migration.
