MADURAI:
The 24th Party Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] commenced today at the iconic Tamukkam Grounds in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, with veteran leader Biman Bose ceremonially hoisting the party flag. The event marks the beginning of a five-day gathering aimed at deliberating on the party’s ideological roadmap and future strategies.
The Congress, which will run from April 2 to 6, has attracted over 800 delegates from various states across the country. The inaugural session witnessed an address by Politburo Coordinator Prakash Karat, who underscored the importance of the Congress in revitalizing the party’s mass base and enhancing its political relevance.
Karat stressed the need for CPI(M) to adapt to the changing political environment while upholding its foundational principles. Discussions will focus on policy resolutions, organizational improvements, and strategies to counter communalism and neoliberal economic policies.
A key highlight of the Congress will be a special seminar titled “Federalism is the Strength of India,” scheduled for April 3. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin are expected to lead discussions on the role of federalism in safeguarding India’s democratic and secular fabric.
The Congress will conclude on April 6 with a public meeting at the Com. N. Sankaraiah Memorial Ground, where senior leaders including Prakash Karat and Pinarayi Vijayan will address pressing national issues such as economic policies, secularism, and the future of progressive forces in the country.
The 24th Party Congress is seen as a crucial moment for the CPI(M) to reaffirm its commitment to socialist principles and address contemporary challenges faced by the nation.
