  • CUSAT: School of Engineering Wins First Prize at Make-a-Ton Annual Hackathon

    KOCHI:
    Team Hack Bytes from School of Engineering, CUSAT, won the first prize at the fourth edition of Make-a-Ton, a 24-hour hackathon organized by the Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Industrial Collaboration (CITTIC). At the annual event aimed at bringing together phenomenal minds from different disciplines to embrace the spirit of innovation, the team won the prize for their project named Audience Data Analytics, which tracked attentiveness during an online video meeting using artificial intelligence techniques. 

    The second prize was shared by Team xDev from Government Engineering College, Thrissur, and Team CodeX from School of Engineering, CUSAT. The former had built a blockchain-based evidence management system to prevent manipulation of proof in Indian courts and the latter developed an IOT-based Horticulture System for timely irrigation for crops. 

    The ‘Hack 4 Cusat’ prize was won by Team BroCode from CUSAT for developing digital printing solutions for students in the university. The one-day Hackathon saw more than 400 registrations and active participation of students. Entrepreneurs from various startups offered continuous mentoring to the participants.

    While delivering the inaugural speech, CUSAT Vice-Chancellor Professor K.N. Madhusudanan hailed CUSAT and CITTIC for being in the forefront upholding the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation for the student community. Prasad Balakrishnan Nair, special officer, Kerala Paper Products Ltd, the guest of honor, stressed how innovation would become the way forward in the post- pandemic era. 

    The judges were Balesh Lakshminarayanan, co-founder, Absyz, Nalesh S, chair, IEEE RFID and assistant professor of DoE, CUSAT, and Sreekanth S, president of  SOE Alumni Association, TCS. The hackathon was held on February 27, 2022.
