Dr. P.G. Sankaran, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Senior Professor, Department of Statistics, CUSAT has been selected for the Distinguished Statistician Award 2020 instituted by the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS).
The award is presented every year for the meritorious service rendered in academic and related statistical activities. It is instituted to honour renowned scientists, inspiring teachers and active researchers working in Statistics. The award will be given in the 40 th Annual conference of ISPS to be held online on 10 th September 2021. Dr. P.G. Sankaran did his Masters Degree and PhD from Cochin University of Science and Technology. He worked as Statistician at Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Spices Board, and as Lecturer at Marthoma College for Women, Perumbavoor. He joined as Lecturer at CUSAT in 1997. Dr. P.G. Sankaran became Professor of Statistics in 2010. He was the Head, Department of Statistics and Director, Centre for
Population Studies.
He is active in research on various topics of Statistics and his areas of interest include Survival Analysis, Distribution Theory, Reliability Theory, Quantile Functions and Statistical Interference. Dr. P G Sankaran has published 170 research papers in internationally reputed journals and published 4 books and 3 technical reports. He supervised 13 students for their Doctoral Degree. He has undertaken various major and minor research projects of UGC, DST, and KSCSTE. Dr. P.G. Sankaran has research collaboration with various institutions such as the University of Waterloo, Canada, University of Dalhousie, Canada, Master University, Canada, University of New Brunswick, Canada, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai.
Dr. P.G. Sankaran received various Awards and Fellowships. He received BOYSCAST Fellowship of DST, Government of India, in 2000 and got Young Researcher Award of International Indian Statistical Association, the USA in 2010.
He is a member of several professional and Academic Bodies of Statistics. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, Netherlands. He is a life member of the International Indian Statistical Association, USA, International Society for Business and Industry, Indian Society for Probability and Statistics and Kerala Statistical Association. He is also a member of International Mathematical Society and American Mathematical Society.
Dr. P.G. Sankaran is the Associate Editor of the journal IAPQR Transactions. He is Reviewer of many international journals including Journal of Applied Statistics, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, Statistics, Statistics and Probability Letters, Sankhya, Communications in Statistics, Journal of Statistical Theory and Practice.
