In an effort to educate children on beach safety and share a peek into what it’s like to be a lifeguard who saves lives every single day, the team of lifeguards at Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd. conducted a session for the students of Sharada Mandir School. The session conducted by Lalit Negi, General Manager, Training, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd. included the basics of beach safety and a lifesaving demo on Miramar beach.
180 students from the III standard attended the session along with their respective teachers and a few parents. The children were divided into five groups and each group was spoken to by the Drishti representatives.
The session started off with a brief about the lifeguard services, lifeguard deployment, their roles and responsibilities, the importance of lifeguard towers and it’s lay out. Drishti Lifesaving representatives also imparted knowledge about the role of the roving patrol, patrol jeep services, Jet Ski and rescue equipment. The students were offered a peek into the world of lifeguarding including the strategy employed and use of various rescue equipment used to conduct rescues on a daily basis along the coast.
Various rescue procedures such as board rescue, tube rescue and Jet Ski rescue were spoken of which were later demonstrated during the lifesaving demo drill. Lalit Negi, GM, Training, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd. also explained the procedures in detail. The two types of flags used at every beach were also brought to the notice of the students. Lalit Negi further explained about rip currents, safe zones and why it’s important to swim between the specific flags demarcated to identify safe swim zones. Post the session and demo drill the students got an opportunity to ask the lifeguards a couple of questions. The interactive session witnessed a host of questions being asked by the curious students.
As a part of its community outreach programme, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd.
has been conducting several sessions for students in an effort to educate students on the basics of beach safety and instil an interest in safety measures and lifeguarding.
