As an effort towards sustainability and rural development, Eicher Group Foundation, (EGF) introduced the Sustainable Interventions to Transform Rural Communities (SITRC) program, in Madhya Pradesh. The development program is a three year initiative by EGF, the CSR wing of VE Commercial Vehicles. G Sekar, Director, Eicher Group Foundation and Dr. N Jeyaseelan, CEO, Hand in Hand India inaugurated the program at Baggad Village
Key highlights: SITRC
Ensure maximum enrolment in primary schools across ages 6-14 years
Access to healthcare facilities for disadvantaged communities
Promote women empowerment through capacity building and job creation
Practices like sustainable organic farming and other farm based livelihood reforms
Promote the green village concept through activities like rational solid waste management, renewable energy, and cleaning and greening initiatives;
Create awareness on citizens’ rights and duties empower them to affirm their rights and fulfil their duties
In undertaking community research, it was found that education, livelihood, environment and health were some challenges faced by the villagers that needed intervention which this program aims to improve. SITRC is focused at building self-reliant communities with the panchayats along with villages and hamlets within its jurisdiction. It is also going to target communiti
es from neighboring villages to benefit from the pillar programs, hence increasing its respective outreach and impact. VECV is implementing this initiative in collaboration with ‘Hand in Hand India’, an NGO with a national presence. We will roll out this program in the panchayats of Baggad & Khot Bhinota (Dhar block), Bagoda & Chirakan (Depalpur block) and Napakhedi & Khokharia (Dewas block) and provide on-ground support for overall implementation of the reforms. Further the reforms will touch more than ten thousand people across six panchayats for education and sustainable agricultural practices.
G Sekar, Director, Eicher Group Foundation commented on the association, “As a responsible corporate citizen, we believe in the philosophy of social and environmental contribution. Believing in the ideology of creating a better future for everyone, we have taken a step towards the transformation of rural communities through SITRC program. We are very glad to partner with Hand in Hand for their support in implementing this initiative through their wide and efficient volunteers’ network. We are very hopeful that the various initiatives taken under the SITRC program will not only create a high level of social capital in villages but also work towards the environmental sustainability.”
