KOLLAM:
The government will provide the youths with necessary employment skills and equip them with the confidence to implement their innovative ideas in order to create a skillful generation, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here today.
“Unlike the jobs from the conventional education system, the state will have a skillful generation with expertise in different job sectors. For this, it’s important to make use of the opportunities effectively,” he pointed out.
Pinarayi was speaking during the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) at Chavara here. Commenting on the aim of the IIIC, the Chief Minister said that today’s job market demands the skills beyond academic knowledge.
“The government is implementing an array of programmes for the youngsters, who pass out technical and vocational courses, aiming at skill development. Basic training infrastructure facilities have been implemented through Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), ITIs, Employability Centres, ODEPC and KSID,” he explained.
“We are trying to narrow the chasm between the availability of skilled people and skilled manpower in the construction sector. The government plans to provide maximum skilled labourers in the global construction sector where the opportunities are the most demanding,” he noted.
Pinarayi pointed out that the IIIC would be a major stepping stone in the area of skill development. There are 32 classrooms of global standard. There are courses that last from six months to one year at the institute for people having any qualification. Skill development courses with globally recognized institutions, cooperation with industrial institutions, global accreditation, campus placements and better job opportunities are the specialty of the IIIC.
Courses are offered in physical infrastructure development, tourism, ITI-based service, hospitality, advanced IT and entrepreneurship streams that enable candidates to work in technician, supervisory and managerial positions.
Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan, who presided over the function, said the government would create a Labour Bank of skilled people from different job sectors. “This will be implemented in association with the Labour Commissionerate, KASE, Employment Directorate and Labour Department,” he added.
Minister for Fisheries J. Mercykutty Amma and Minister for Forests Adv. K. Raju were the chief guests at the function.
N. Vijayan Pillai, MLA gave the welcome speech. N.K. Premachandran MP; MLAs Kovoor Kunjumon and R. Ramachandran; Mayor Adv. V. Rajendrababu; former Minister Shibu Baby John; Dr Sriram Venkitaraman, MD, KASE and Director Employment and Training; K.
