Measures aimed at conserving the mangroves, biodiversity, local resources and the traditional jobs would be receive a big boost with the Jalaayanam Tourism Project kicked off in Kozhikode today, according to Kadakaampally Surendran, Minister for tourism, Cooperation and Devaswoms.
Speaking after inaugurating the ambitious project at the Kambilipparambu Mambuzha Farm Tourism Centre at the Kozhikode Block Panchayat Kadakaampally Surendran said that the huge tourism potential offered by Kozhikode would be tapped in a major way. The project conceived by the Kerala State Responsible Tourism Mission is being implemented in association with the Kozhikode Block Panchayat.
The project has opened up new avenues in the tourism arena by making use of the Mambuzha, Chaliyar, and Kadalundi rivers and their banks. The project has been envisaged to be implemented with the support of the Olavanna and a Kadalundi Gram Panchayats.
As many as five diverse tourism packages have been lined up as part of the Jalaayanam Tourism Project. They include “Know Kadalundi’, a full-day package offering country boat rides, taking tourists closer to the mangrove-rich regions and letting them experience the traditional lake and sea riches.
The second package, “Feel Mohabbath With Mambuzha” offers a full day’s activity that will bring to travellers the experiences of mat making, dairy farm visit, earthen pot manufacturing, palm dishes, brass iron-box manufacturing, alongside offering a visit to the mangroves. The package also includes a Farm Visit to help tourists experience aquaponics and a floating restaurant.
The “Chaliyar Triveni Gramayathra” is a full-day package that would take tourists on a ride across three rivers to let them have a closer feel of fishing in boats. Tourists could also experience the riches of the three lakes as part of the package.
The “Yesteryear Villages” half-day package includes a boat ride, visit to a coir manufacturing unit, coconut climbing, live fishing, and traditional meals. Tourists can also engage in various local and traditional outdoor sporting activities.
The “Connecting Culture” package offers sightseeing across the paddy fields, traditional weaving units, art centers, alongside experiencing soft trekking and village visits.
The Jalaayanam website was launched at the function by U V Jose, District Collector, Kozhikode. Kerala State Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator K Rupesh Kumar, made a detailed presentation on the Jalaayanam Tourism Project at the function.
Kozhikode Block Panchayat President N Manoj Kumar, Vice-president A P Haseena, Olavanna Gram Panchayat President K Thankamani, and others were present at the launch of the Jalaayanam Tourism Project.
