  • IIITM-K to Hold Online Admission test on July 25 for MSc, MPhil

By NE Reporter on June 19, 2020

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) has invited applications for three courses, scheduling their admission tests online and exploring the possibility of conducting a proctored test owing to the constraints imposed by COVID-19.

June 30 is the last date for registering online for the entrance examinations to IIITM-K’s MSc in Computer Science, besides MPhils in Computer Science and Ecological Informatics. The MSc Computer Science offers specialisations in Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Machine Intelligence and Geospatial Analytics. For details, visit: www.iiitmk.ac.in/admission or contact 9809159559.

The online test is scheduled to be held on July 25. Admit cards will be issued online on July 20. The results of the entrance exam will be announced on August 3. Classes for the new batch are expected to commence in the second week of September.

The “proctored” feature mandates the candidate to install the software to enable verification of one’s identity by taking a webcam photo of the face, photo ID and use of a webcam to scan the desk and the room where one takes the exam. The data recorded by the software is then transferred to a proctoring service for review. The candidates can take the test using desktop, laptop, tabs or smartphones.

The restrictions clamped across the country to counter the spread of coronavirus have led IIITM-K to exploring the possibility of conducting online proctored entrance exams. The test, which enables candidates to take it from homes, is backed by intelligent remote-monitoring, according to authorities at the autonomous institution set up by the Kerala Government under the IT Department.

Online classes for the running batch will start in the first week of August. Notwithstanding the outbreak of the pandemic, IIITM-K successfully completed internal evaluations and project viva voce for students during the 2019-20 academic year, authorities added.

The 2000-founded institution located in Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology. IIITM-K, which hosts the Kerala Blockchain Academy, also offers the CISCO thingQbator facility for students on digital technologies. Supported by the NASSCOM foundation, it facilitates converting ideas into working prototypes. Maker Village, Kochi functions under IIITM-K as the state’s sole hardware incubator.
