    KOCHI:
    Department of Applied Chemistry of Cochin University of Science and Technology is organizing an international conference on Materials for the Millennium, ‘MATCON 2019’ during 14th to 16th March.

    The specialty of the programme is that the event will be inaugurated by Prof. Hanna Radecka and Prof. Salma Al Kindy, two women scientists from among the invited speakers, at 9.30 am on 14th March at Science Seminar Complex. The function will be presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. R. Sasidharan. The presence of three Bhatnagar award recipients and their lecture will add charm to the conference. Prof. K George Thomas, the recipient of Bhatnagar award and Professor in IISER, Trivandrum will deliver the keynote address.

    The Bhatnagar awardee and the Padmashri laureate Prof. E D Jemmis will lead a special session in the conference which is sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry, London. Around 300 delegates from different countries like Germany, Japan, Poland, America, Oman, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and India will be part of this conference. Prof. Herbert Roesky, University of Gottingen, Germany, Prof. Wolfgang Kaim, University of Stuggart, Germany, Prof. Jerzy Radecki, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland, Prof. Hanna Radecka, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland, Prof. Salma al Kindy, Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, Prof. Abdul Azeez Bagabas, King Abdul Azees University, Saudi Arabia, Prof. Syoji Itto, Osaka University, Japan, Prof. Edwin Yeow, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore are the prominent speakers from abroad. Prof. K Girish Kumar, HOD, Applied Chemistry and Chairman MATCON 2019, Dr. Leena R, Dr. Susmita De, Convenor, and Prof. M R Prathapachandra Kurup, Dean, faculty of sciences, CUSAT will speak. The conference is funded by DST SERB, Government of India, DRDO, CSIR, UGC, KSCSTE and RSC London.
