KOCHI:
Janarogya Prasthanam director Dr Jacob Vadakkanchery was arrested by the crime branch in connection with the social media campaign against leptospirosis preventive medicine.
He was arrested following the directive of health minister K K Shailaja.
Health Minister had sent a letter of DGP Loknath Behera stating that Jacob Vadakkanchery had been creating panic among the public about the preventive medicine for leptospirosis through a social media campaign. She said that Vadakkanchery raised baseless allegations by questioning the credibility of leptospirosis preventive efforts.
Health department had issued a protocol and high alert for prevention and cure of the disease.
Earlier, Dr Jacob Vadakkachery said that case should be registered against Indian Medical Association (IMA) office bearers for misleading people that Doxycycline tablets to prevent leptosyrosis do not have any side effects. He pointed out that case should be registered against Dr E K Ummer and Dr Sulphy for misleading people.
He said that diseases like leptosyrosis, dengue and nipha are seen in people who are taking allopathy medicines. These diseases are not seen in people who are following ayurveda, homoeo and natural treatment.
There is suspicion in the birth of new diseases every year and allopathy doctors treating people without finding out the medicine for these diseases. During floods, it was seen that the common diseases have disappeared.
The propaganda of spreading leptospirosis is being done by drug manufacturers. However, if we give an RTI to find out the death due to leptospirsis, there will not be any records in this regard, Vadakkanchery had said.
