NEW DELHI:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently incarcerated, has penned a letter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena concerning the flag-hoisting ceremony scheduled for August 15, sources reported on Wednesday. Kejriwal’s letter requested that Minister Atishi be permitted to hoist the flag on his behalf for the Independence Day festivities.
On Monday, the Delhi High Court rejected Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the Excise Policy case. The court noted that the arrest was not without just cause. It has, however, provided Kejriwal the option to seek bail from the trial court for further relief.
India is set to celebrate 77 years of Independence with the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ on August 15, 2024. In the run-up to the celebrations, BSES has issued a cautionary advisory urging the public to refrain from using metal or metal-coated manjha during kite-flying to ensure safety.
A representative from BSES stated, “Each year, numerous power disruptions and equipment damages occur due to metal-coated manjha. With the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, there’s a potential rise in kite-flying activities, likely leading to more incidents.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the National Flag at Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day on August 15.
