By NE Reporter on May 13, 2025

    KOCHI:
Committed to advancing awareness around sensitive skin conditions, Kenvue, the world’s largest consumer health company by revenue hosted ‘Oat Nature Lab’, a scientific immersion in association with Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Delhi on the importance of advancing evidence-based daily sensitive skincare regimens for children and critical of role of colloidal oat-based skincare to address this critical health condition.

The Hidden Impact of Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin conditions such as Atopic Dermatitis (AD), eczema Xerosis, and Diaper Dermatitis are on the rise, with AD affecting children twice higher than adults globally.[1] Over the last decade, the prevalence of sensitive skin conditions in Indian children has increased owing to urbanization, pollution, and climate changes, including rising temperatures and humidity. According to a recent Indian expert consensus with inputs by IAP, Indian children suffering from AD has increased ranging between 20-39%.[2]

Today, about 30% children who attend pediatric out-patient departments experience dermatological disorders[3], necessitating early intervention for helping management of AD in children. Yet, skincare in newborn or in a child is not given the due attention, which affects the overall quality of a baby’s but also their family.

Attended by India’s leading paediatricians, dermatologists, and healthcare professionals, ‘Oat Nature Lab’ brought to the fore latest scientific research, real-world experiences, and evidence-backed practices around paediatric skin care science and superiority of colloidal oatmeal in managing sensitive skin in children.

Concurring on the growing clinical confidence around colloidal oat-based emollients, the experts highlighted its positive outcomes in sensitive skin management in providing relief, helping repair the skin barrier and moisturization. They emphasized the importance of holistic solutions tailored to the child’s sensitivity profile including choosing the right ingredients with formulations.

According to Dr. Pankaj Garg, President, IAP Delhi, “Given the rise in paediatric sensitive skin conditions, there is an urgent need to strengthen awareness amongst both the paediatric community and parents. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has put in place standardized guidelines to better manage sensitive skin emphasizing gentle care, avoidance of irritants and harsh products along with regular usage of emollients containing ceramides, lipids and natural colloid oatmeal, making it a cornerstone in the management of pediatric sensitive skin conditions. We complement Kenvue for its continued efforts to enhance science and educational initiatives to improve awareness about skin health in children.”

Spotlighting case studies from pediatric and dermatological lens, Dr. Arun Wadhwa, a seasoned paediatrician and Dr. Sheilly Kapoor illustrated practical challenges in treating sensitive skin conditions and successful interventions like complete emollient therapy which help reduce the need of steroids[4], impact on a baby’s quality of life.

The session was moderated by Dr. A.R. Somashekar, along with renowned dermatologists Dr. Sanjiv Kandhari and Dr Sheilly Kapoor and renowned paediatric allergist Dr Neeraj Gupta shared best practices on integrating colloidal oat into daily paediatric skincare routines, both in-clinic and at-home.

Earlier this year, Kenvue India launched India’s first-ever standardized consensus recommendations[5] on role of colloidal oat-based skincare in management of sensitive skin in children that aimed to provide guidance to neonatologists, paediatricians, allergists and dermatologists for managing sensitive skin conditions in children. With expert inputs and review by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the consensus panel highlighted the benefits of moisturizers particularly those containing colloidal oatmeal in effectively hydrating the skin, help repairing the skin barrier, and providing relief for varied sensitive skin conditions. The long-term use of such emollients can help reduce flare-ups and minimize the need for corticosteroids, particularly in children with AD.

Manoj Gadgil, Business Unit, Essential Health and Skin Health, and Vice President Marketing, Kenvue said “At Kenvue, we are committed to everyday care. Sensitive skin conditions especially in babies critically impacts the overall well-being of a child as well as their families. However, there continues to be limited awareness about sensitive skin conditions and necessary measures to manage it. Over the years, Aveeno Baby has been committed to raising awareness about sensitive skin conditions. ‘Oat Nature Lab’, our global-first-of-its-kind scientific immersion around oats efficacy marks a significant step towards strengthening awareness about sensitive skin conditions in paediatric population. Through a scientific dialogue and immersion, we are taking our decades of oat science to more healthcare experts and mums and providing them clinically proven science backed solutions.”

Dr. Dilip Tripathi, Regional Head, Baby & Women’s Health Research & Development, Kenvue said, “For generations, Kenvue has been advancing science around colloidal oatmeal in addressing sensitive conditions to help restore, nourish and protect a baby’s skin. While many sensitive skin ingredients simply moisturize, oat provides relief to dry, itchy skin and helps restore the skin’s natural ceramide balance and microbiome. We remain committed to working closely with paediatricians and dermatologists to strengthen awareness and provide innovative, science-backed solutions in managing these conditions to improve overall health outcomes of children.”

The ‘Oat Nature Lab’ scientific immersion was also taken to mums where they first-hand experienced the superiority of oats. From knowing more about Aveeno Baby’s ingredient legacy to superiority demos, and from learning about efficacy of Triple Oat Complex to participating in DIY product workshops, the mums engaged with the brand and its clinically formulated product range to know more about taking best care of baby’s sensitive skin conditions.
