KIMSHEALTH’s Centre for Comprehensive Liver Care is organising a HepCon international medical conference at Poovar on August 27 and 28, which is the first exclusive event in the state focusing on liver cancer.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will inaugurate the two-day event at Poovar Island Resort, 30 km south of the city, on August 27 at 11.30 am, KIMSHEALTH Chairman and Managing Director Dr M.I. Sahadulla told a press conference here today.
The conference is being held at a time when liver cancer is on the rise, necessitating effective treatment and protection against the malignant disease.
Attended by 60 expert doctors from within the country and abroad, HepCon will feature seven sessions, hosting panel sessions as well as discussions on 35 topics, including etiology, pathology, biology, image and assessment, treatment planning and transplantation.
Prominent speakers include Dr Paul Gibbs (Senior Consultant Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge, UK), Dr Sanjeeva Kalva (Chief Interventional Radiologist, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston), Dr S.K. Sarin, Dr Subhash Gupta, Dr Dharmesh Kapoor and Dr Sahadulla.
Dr Sahadulla said liver cancer is prevalent in our society and HepCon will cover the comprehensive aspect of preventing it as well as ensuring treatment on par with global standard.
He said the conclave is the first-of-its-kind exclusive event in the state focusing on liver cancer.
Dr G Vijayaraghavan, Vice-Chairman, KIMSHEALTH, said the conclave is aimed at creating awareness among people about liver cancer, besides focusing on the research field that is vital for the early-stage detection of the disease and its treatment.
Around 200 doctors from across the country have already registered for the conclave.
HepCon will begin with a session on ‘Etiology, Pathology and Biology’. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by a talk and discussion on ‘Imaging and Assessment.’ The subsequent session on Treatment Planning, will hold a panel discussion on Resectable HCC—Roadmap for Optimal Evaluation and Management Dr Gibbs will be among the participants, with Dr H. Ramesh as the moderator.
The session on ‘Locally Advanced HCC — A Strategic Approach’ (moderator: Dr S. Sudheendran) will be followed by another session on ‘Transplantation for HCC’.
The final day (August 28) will begin with a debate, followed by a video session and a session on ‘Future of Liver Disease Treatment.’
