Johnson Endura Tac Tiles is one innovation from H&R Johnson’s portfolio that provides cues combined with information to assist visually challenged people to commute independently and to make India access friendly. The first phase of the Kochi Metro has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 17 and the metro rail operations started from June 19 around the commercial capital of Kerala.
Globally, Tac tile ground surface indicators are an important and mandatory design element in all modern construction and public infrastructure projects. The tactile has been used in all the 11 metro stations across platforms, pathways, steps, etc in the Kochi Metro for ease of commuting for the visually challenged.

The Johnson Endura Tac Tiles are in the size of 30cm x 30cm 10 mm thickness with surface indicators in standardized designs of truncated domes & truncated bars having elevated profile thickness of 4.5 mm. These tiles are highly abrasion resistant and weather proof. They are slip resistant and have high strength and durability. Hence, are suitable to be used in heavy duty public areas like railway stations, metros, airports, driveways, pathways, etc.
Around the southern part of the country, the Johnson Endura Tac Tiles has also been used in Bangalore and Hyderabad Rail Metro projects in order to provide differently-abled people easy access across the cities.
