By NE Reporter on October 19, 2017

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The second and third editions of the Idea Day, a financial aid project initiated by the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), will be held at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology (SJCET), Pala on November 4 and 11.
The theme of the first event will be “Social and Rural Innovation” with focus on identifying the social and rural issues and finding solutions, which will have a global appeal. The event on November 11 will be based on the topic “Technology for Clean Energy”.
Tiffany Brar, a visually-challenged community service worker and the founder of the Jyothirgamaya Foundation, will address the gathering on November 4. She is an advocate for building an inclusive society.
“Issues related to water availability, water usage, hygiene, rural entrepreneurship, clean energy and food safety are rampant in the social life of villagers. We aim at providing grant for startups that present innovative solutions to such problems,” said Dr. Saji Gopinath, CEO, KSUM.
The KSUM had initiated Innovation Entrepreneurship Development Centers (IEDC) in 196 colleges across the State and technology product startups from outside. This is to provide funds for innovative projects, ideas and products from college campuses. Besides, the Idea Day promotes entrepreneurship among the public.
Persons having their own primary model and idea of a product and startups registered in Kerala or in incubators can apply for innovation grant through Idea Day. A grant of up to Rs 12 lakh will be provided for a product that has potential for global marketing and development.
The Idea Day will be conducted on the first Saturday of every month. Applications received until 25th of every month will only be considered for the Idea Day presentation. Selected applicants will be intimated five days before the Idea Day and rejected information will be provided via e-mail within 30th of the month.
