Thiruvananthapuram: Kuwait will recruit 1000 nursing professionals directly through NORKA and ODEPC in Kerala and Tamil Nadu Manpower Corporation, avoiding middlemen.
A deal in this regard was sealed afetr a visiting team of Kuwait Healthcare Department officials held talks with Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Minister K C Joseph and the officials both Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Thursday and Friday. The nurses will be absorbed by Kuwait government agencies.
The deal will benefit nurses in two ways – no delay, and no middlemen. Currently, there is a requrment of 1000 nurses immediately. More recruitments will take place once the process has been straemlined.
Middlemen had ruled the roost in the Nurse recruitment market where each candidate had to shell out Rs 20 to 25 lakhs as agency commission to middlemen.
The Central government had stepped in to stop this practice by entrusting the job of recruitment to government agencies such as NORKA, ODEPC and the Tamil Nadu Manpower Corporation but the move did not make much headway. The private agenies were trying to regain lost business through court intervention when the new deal came through.
