  • Lawyers Turn Singers to Bring Solace to Patients

By NE Reporter on July 12, 2018

    KOCHI:
Lawyers can be singers too, if that helps bring a little cheer to patients in a hospital.
This was exactly what advocates Sujai Sathian and Sindhu N V did when they came down to sing for the Arts and Medicine programme of Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) at the General hospital here on Wednsday, where the listeners were patients, bystanders and the medical staff. It was from one of the singers who came to participate in ‘ Lawyers’ Mehphil’, a musical programme conducted by Paravur Bar Association, that Sujai came to know about the ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme.
“The idea did appeal to me strongly because I could relate to it. I have been part of charities for long. So, when I knew that the objective of the programme was not entertainment alone but to bring some solace to the patients, I decided to go for it,” he said.
Sujai was joined by his lawyer colleague Sindhu N Vfrom Malappuram to participate in the 228th weekly ‘ Arts and Medicine ‘ event at the hospital. Right at the outset, I knew that I had to take my listeners away from their wearisome thoughts by creating an ambiance where they could feel a bit of tranquility, Sujai pointed out.
“And, what else could bring it than music? Even, that thought reminded me of my responsibility as a singer,” he noted.
Sujai , practising in Paravur District Court as well as the High Court, is a seasoned stage performer and a member of two musical bands, Voice of Musiris’ and LIPS ( Lovers of Indian Popular Music) Kochi. Apart from these, he has also featured in albums.
Sujai met Sindhu, who is an advocate in Tirur Court, during an Inter- Bar Music Contest held at Paravur, in which she was a participant. “When this opportunity came along, I told her about it and she, without any reluctance, jumped at the proposal,” Sujai said.
Sindhu had also participated in a number of music programmes in Malappuram. The duo together sang 13 songs, which included such ever green hits as ‘ Pathu veluppinu’, ‘ Muzafir hum mein yaaron’, ‘ Humein tumse pyar kitna’ and ‘ Tharapadham Chethoharam’.
The all-Wednesday therapeutic music programme is a joint initiative of KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and is sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services) aiming to provide solace to patients.
