  • ‘Love Jihad’: Hadiya Happy and Healthy, NCW Chief Says

By NE Reporter on November 7, 2017

    KOTTAYAM:
National Commission for Women (NCW) acting chairperson Rekha Sharma on Monday visited Hadiya alias Akhila (24), whose marriage to a Muslim after conversion was annulled by the high court, at her residence in Vaikom.
After spending over 45 minutes with Hadiya and her parents at their residence, Sharma said Hadiya is in good health and spirits. Hadiya repeatedly said that she was okay and wants to talk to the court, said Sharma. The Supreme Court had asked Hadiya’s father and Kerala police to produce her before the court on November 27, when the case will be heard next.
“I just met AkhilaHadiya, whatever you want to call her. Myself and NCW were concerned about her well-being. She is in good health and not beaten up. She is eating her food and she was smiling,” said Sharma after coming out of Hadiya’s house near Vaikom here.
Showing a photograph of Hadiya in her mobile, Shar ma said: “She was smiling and happy.”
Sharma added that she could not disclose what Hadiya told her to the media as the case was still in court.
“Her security is under no threat. She said she is waiting for November 27,” added Sharma.
The chairperson did not ask Hadiya if she wants to go with Shafin Jahan. “I did not touch upon this topic at all as it is under the consideration of the court,” said Sharma. However, Hadiya said that she wants to go out and I promised her that I will take her out when the media was not around, said Sharma.
Sharma added that she would submit a report in this regard in a week.
The Supreme Court, on August 16, asked the NIA to probe the marriage of Hadiya to Shafin Jahan under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge to examine the alleged indoctrination and her conversion to Islam, and if it was part of an organized `love jihad’.
