GADAG (KARNATAKA):
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in Gadag district for allegedly raping his minor daughter for a year, leaving the 16-year-old pregnant. The victim has been admitted to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) for treatment.
According to police reports, the accused repeatedly sexually assaulted his daughter at their residence over the past year. He exploited moments when the minor was alone at home to commit the heinous acts. The accused also allegedly threatened his daughter with severe consequences if she disclosed the assaults to anyone.
Following the discovery of the crime, police swiftly arrested the accused and are currently conducting a DNA test. A case has been registered against the man under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further details regarding this shocking incident are awaited.
This case adds to a disturbing pattern of crimes against children in Karnataka. In January 2024, a 15-year-old girl in Mandya tragically took her own life after learning she was pregnant following sexual assault by a neighbour. In August 2023, a principal in Bengaluru was arrested for raping a 10-year-old student within the school premises.
