  • MTB Kerala: Cycle Rally at Palakkad on Friday

By NE Reporter on December 10, 2019

    PALAKKAD:
Cyclists will take out a rally along a scenic stretch of rugged Palakkad this Friday as a publicity event for next week’s MTB (Mountain Bike) Kerala in neighbouring Wayanad district.

Named ‘Get A Cycle, Get A Life’, the December 13 show here will see the cyclists riding a total distance of 30 km. The rally will begin from the Palakkad Fort in the city and proceed to Malampuzha Dam via Kalpathy heritage village and Kava before returning to the starting point, organisers said.

The Palakkad District Tourism Promotion Council and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Council are organising the forenoon rally with the idea of spreading the message about cycle as the best means of transportation for personal health and nature conservation.

Those interested to join the event can contact the DTPC office here or call at 0491-2538996 before December 13.
A hot-air balloon event will be held alongside the rally.

The upcoming 6th edition of MTB, which is billed as the country’s most spectacular and challenging biking race, will be held in Manathavady from December 20 to 22. Organised by the state government’s Department of Tourism, the races for biking professionals and amateurs from India and abroad will see the participants negotiating a challenging 5-km stretch along Priyadarshini Tea Environs at an altitude of 3,000 feet in the Western Ghats.

Being held under the aegis of Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, District Tourism Promotion Council (Wayanad) and Cycling Federation of India, MTB will be hold races in three categories: International Cross Country, National Cross Country – Men, and National Cross Country – Women.
