KOCHI:
Manhar Valjibhai Zala, Chairman, National Commission for Safai Karmacharis, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, visited Cochin Port Trust during 1st to 3rd September, 2017.
During the visit, the Commission held meeting on 02/09/2017 with representatives of Safai Karmacharis of Cochin Port Trust and representatives of Federation of Central Government SC/ST Employees (Kerala), Cochin Port Trust Unit and discussed their grievances, thereafter a meeting was held with A. V. Ramana, Deputy Chairman, Cochin Port Trust and senior officers to discuss the issues relating to Safai Karmacharis of the Port, to study & evaluate the socio, economic and education status and to monitor the implementation of welfare schemes. Cochin Port Trust informed the Committee that no manual scavengers are engaged in Cochin Port Trust.
