  • Oushadha Biksha Yatra to Reach Kasaragod on Monday

By NE Reporter on July 9, 2018

    KASARGOD:
Oushadha Biksha Yatra, a unique campaign launched to collect medicinal ingredients from 114 temples in the state, will reach the up north Kasaragod by Monday evening.
After visiting various temples in the district, the road show will commence its return journey to Koothattukulam from where it was flagged off on June 27. The campaign marks the revival of an ancient tradition of gathering the basic ingredients from people to make a special Ayurvedic medicinal package to be consumed in the Malayalam month of Karkitakam (July-August) to re-energise the body and mind.
The chariot, a specially decorated vehicle displaying the replica of a sanctum sanctorum with the idol of Oushadeswari (Goddess of Welness) installed in it, had already toured scores of temples in the length and breadth of the state.
In all places, people had lined up in strength to make the symbolic offering of ‘thriphala’ and ghee to the Yatra, in the form of ‘biksha’ (alms) for the universal wellness. The first stopover of the Yatra in Kasaragod will be Mannyot Devalaya temple which will then move on to Sree Karppooreswara temple, Poonkavanam, Kanhangad, where it is scheduled to reach at 5.30 pm. It will also touch Sree Parashiva Viswakarma temple at 6.30 pm.
On Tuesday, the Yatra will then move on to Sree Mallikarjuna temple, Sree Madanantheswara Vinayaka temple, Sree Thrayambakeswara temple, Trikkannod and Thaliyil Sree Neelakandeswara temple. The sojourn to the northern part of the state ends by visiting Madhur Sree Madanantheswara Vinayaka temple on Tuesday.
It will begin its return trip through the temples in Kannur including Kadalayi Sree Krishna Swami temple, Chirakkal, Kalarivathukkal Bhagavathi temple and Parasinikkadavu Muthappan temple. The Yatra, which has received tremendous response from the devotees since it commenced last month, has covered the central and southern districts of Kerala.
Devotees can offer ‘Thriphala’ and ghee as ‘biksha’ (alms) when the chario reaches the district.
Before visiting the temples in Kasaragod, the Yatra had also touched the major temples in Kannur including, Sree Raja Rajeswara temple at Thaliparamba followed by Kapalikulangara Maha Vishnu temple, Trichambaram Sree Krishna temple, Sree Subramanya Swami temple and Kondothidam Sree Someswari temple.
Medicines, herbs and other ingredients collected during the campaign from around the state would go into the making of the special ‘Karkitaka” medicine package, which will be distributed among the people. ‘Oushadha Seva’ starts once the Yatra returns to Koothatukulam Oushadheswari temple.
