Universities should shift from conventional teaching method to practical, said Dr. Kuncheria P Isaac, Vice Chancellor, A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University accepting Prof. M.V. Pylee Award for distinguished academician of India at Cusat.
University teachers should act as autonomous teachers without being influenced by Syndicate or Administration. They should ensure the overall development of the students by suggesting appropriate projects, adopting apt teaching methods and assessing the students transparently and effectively. Dr. Kuncheria declared that the entire award money will be donated for the development of the Aided School at Kottayam where he studied.
Dr. Jancy James, former Vice Chancellor, M.G University and Central University of Kerala and former awardee who presented the award, opined that in spite of all the positive factors, the quality of education has deteriorated in the state. She said that media should lay more emphasis on promoting education. Cusat Vice Chancellor Dr. J Letha presided over the function. Prof. M. V. Pylee, Dr. P. G. Sankaran (Pro. Vice Chancellor) Dr. K. G Nair (Director, Centre for Science in Society), Dr. M. Bhasi (Syndicate member) and Dr. S David Peter (Registrar) spoke.
The award in the name of Padmabhushan Prof. M.V Pylee, former Vice Chancellor of CUSAT and renowned constitutional expert carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and citation.
