Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery has been awarded the prestigious Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020 with 3rd Position in Category 1 instituted by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).

The award was given away at a ceremony held on Thursday attended by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Minister of Education and Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. This year, AICTE based on the nomination criteria have received 900 applications in total but only 535 institutions who have submitted the complete data were taken for evaluation.

After an evaluation based on the parameters decided by the Authority, all applicants were scrutinized and evaluated by the team of experts. Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery affirmed its position among the 103 institutions recommended by the team of experts. When a committee of Jury members once again evaluated the 103 applications and announced the final list of 35 institutions, Rajagiri displayed its competency. Thus, among the 14 different categories distinguished by AICTE, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences has been chosen for the coveted recognition.

The AICTE Vishwakarma Awards is being organized by AICTE for promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society through the stakeholders of its approved institutes. By means of this competition, the innovations, achievements and social contribution of individuals and institutions/organizations shall be recognized and applauded.

As we face our biggest challenge to contain the spread of COVID -19 in India and the technical education community in the country being well-capable of serving the community by utilizing its vast knowledge and ample resources. Hence, AICTE under its Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020 is proposing the theme of the year as “India fights corona”.

Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, Ernakulam, Kerala has laid ardent efforts and initiated all kinds of steps to ensure that the spread of virus is slowed down or stopped and have helped the society by extending physical and emotional assistance during the lockdown period through the conduct of awareness programs, free counselling, tele-support, manufacturing/providing hand sanitizers, masks, shelter/food/materials for the needy, developing e-material for managing online classes, educating school students, involvement in development of essential solutions etc. This travail of the institution during the pandemic, qualified it to send the nomination for the hailed Utkrisht Sansthan Vishwakarma Award (USVA) 2020.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament with a view to proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout the country, the promotion of qualitative improvement of such education in relation to planned quantitative growth and the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in the technical education system and for matters connected therewith.

The Vishwakarma Awards are inspired by the spirit of engineering and creation patronized by Lord Vishwakarma, the ruling deity of construction practices in India. As per Rigveda, Lord Vishwakarma is considered to be deity who is the original creator, architect and divine engineer of the universe. The Awards are thus a means to provide a platform for our stakeholders to look at the societal challenges, with an aim to provide innovative and low cost solutions. However, it is not merely a competition- it will also encourage the students, faculties and institutions to bring about sustainable solutions to problems. These awards are an embodiment of encouraging truly successful efforts that have made a mark on the society in terms of delivering better outputs & processes and creating higher benchmarks.
