    AMARAVATI:
The overall COVID-19 death toll in Andhra Pradesh shot up to 408 following a record 43 deaths in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Tuesday, state health officials said.

Meanwhile, 1,916 new cases were reported during the same period, taking the overall tally to 33,019 cases in Andhra Pradesh. Tuesday’s death toll is higher than the previous record of 37 deaths reported the preceding morning. Deaths were reported from nine of the state’s 13 districts.

Anantapur recorded the highest number of 10 deaths followed by West Godavari with nine deaths. Chittoor, East Godavari, and Kadapa reported five deaths each, while Kurnool and Prakasam reported two deaths each. To the north, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts reported two and one deaths respectively.

The addition of 1,916 positive cases, took the overall tally of Covid cases in Andhra Pradesh to 33,019 on Tuesday. State health officials said that only two districts reported double digits while the remaining 11 districts had Covid counts running into triple digit numbers. Chittoor reported the highest day tally of 238 followed by Srikakulam with 215 cases, West Godavari with 199 cases, and Anantapur with 185 cases.

Some of the other districts that reported high Covid numbers over the previous 24 hours include Kurnool with 169 cases, Nellore with 165 cases, East Godavari with 160 cases, Guntur with 146 cases, Vizianagaram with 130 cases and Krishna district with 129 cases. The test size was slightly higher at 22,670 samples in comparison to the 19,247 samples that were tested during the cycle ending the previous morning.

952 persons were discharged from hospitals and Covid treatment centres in the state. By Tuesday morning, Andhra Pradesh reported 15,144 active cases while 17,467 have been declared as cured and discharged.

Meanwhile, the tally of positive cases detected in returnees from other states to Andhra Pradesh continued to decline. On Tuesday, the figure fell further by 5 cases in comparison to the previous day even as returnees from Telangana continue to dominate this category. Four of the eight cases were returnees from the neighbouring Telugu state.

Apart from this, there were 2 cases each from Karnataka and Delhi. In all, 2,424 persons have tested positive for Covid among the persons who returned from other states. The active cases tally in this category is 510, while 1,914 persons have recovered till date.
