Registration for the first edition of the BPS All-Goa Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023 is underway for all categories, according to the organizers of the tournament. The state-level ranking tennis tournament has been organized by the prestigious BPS Sports Club in Margao and the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and will feature matches in the open as well as veterans categories. The last day for registration for the open and veterans’ category of the tennis tournament is May 8. The tournament will be held from May 13 to May 20 with the veterans category to be held on the first two days followed by the open category matches.
The categories in the veterans’ segment are namely veteran singles 45+, veteran doubles 45+, veterans 55+ singles and veterans 55+ doubles. The open category includes eight sub categories which are under-14 (girls and boys), under-18 (girls and boys), mixed doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles.
“Tennis players are encouraged to participate in the tournament in order to improve their state ranking in the sport. Ever since the registration opened recently, we have witnessed a great deal of enthusiasm from the tennis fraternity in the state,” says Santosh George, President of BPS.
The total prize money for winners of the various categories in the tournament is Rs. 70,000. The BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023 will feature a unique rank-based system, which is based on the number of points earned by players throughout the tournament. The more points a player earns, the higher his or her rank at the end of the tournament. Players with higher points will improve their seeding in the next tournament. Points are earned by advancing through the tournament’s rounds. Players earn 5 points in the pre-quarter finals, 10 points in the quarterfinals, 20 points in the semi-finals, 30 points in the finals. The winner of the finals wins 50 points.
The upcoming tennis tournament in Goa is scheduled to host promising players including Tejas Shevde, Manuela Gomes. Young champions namely Darsh Pai and Tithee Bhoomkar will also be competing for the coveted BPS All-Goa Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023 trophy.
