By NE Reporter on September 10, 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
After a successful stint at Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai, SHEROES, the women’s community platform organized the 4th leg of its annual summit in Trivandrum today. The event focused on the importance of ‘Building Communities’ which was organized in association with UST Global and KLAY Prep Schools and Daycare in the city. The multi-city event brought together women leaders in the tech space, women leading local communities, and members of the SHEROES community, all under one roof which took place at the UST Global Campus.
Highlighting the achievements of women who are designing their own destinies outside the job market, the event emphasized on opportunities in the tech space, via specially curated sessions. With an aim to hire more women in tech in India, UST Global organized one-on-one mentorship sessions for women in tech and freshers at the SHEROES summit.
    G. Vijaya Raghavan, Part of UST Board of Directors & Chairman, India Said, “A diverse and inclusive organizational culture is fundamental to any business, especially at UST. Besides contributing to a richer problem solving fabric made stronger by diverse groups of employees, such a culture enables UST to fulfil its vision of transforming 3 billion lives. We believe in ensuring gender parity and providing opportunities to all our employees to find their voice. UST’s partnership with SHEROES is one such program that enables our women associates to become part of a larger, national community of successful women leaders from across the industry, learn from each other and discover their true potential. This is just one small step in going beyond the rhetoric, in our commitment to diversity and inclusion.”
Alicia Castillo Holley, Silicon Valley angel investor and founder of the “Women Get Funded” programme, brought to India by SHEROES spoke about women entrepreneurs and funding. Alicia stated, “Education is transformational, which is why I started “Women Get Funded” and SHEROES is my best sponsor”. SHEROES will offer 3 scholarships to support women entrepreneurs in becoming savvy about funding their ventures.
Mitali Mukherjee, Co-founder of The MoneyMipe delivered the keynote. The Tech Talks fireside chat with Sairee Chahal, Founder & CEO of SHEROES in conversation with Ramya Kannan, VP – Delivery at UST Global and Pooja Goyal, Head of Strategic Planning, KLAY Prep Schools & DayCare focused on getting more women to work, discussing trends and life hacks for success.
Shefali Sonpar, Sr. Director, Head of Insurance Practice, UST Global, shared how her internal drive and focus helped her succeed at various stages in life. “As women, it’s time we take charge of our lives, have self-belief, ignore the noise, and you will grow to become the person you want to be. Stay relevant by keeping yourself abreast of what is happening, be it technology, education or art.” UST Global, an organization with a strong cultural DNA for inclusion, allows work-life integration without compromising on productivity. “UST Global allows me to work on next-generation digital transformation solutions and pursue my passion of working at the intersection of business and technology,” she added.
Highlight of the event was the community panel featuring local stars impacting change via communities – Namita Nair (SHE Drives Data), Archana Gopinath (Where In Trivandrum, The Reading Room), Meenakshi Sanjeev (Women’s Business Incubator Park), Sumati Raj (KLAYSchools), Aparna Gopan (Elefant In The Room) and RED FM’S popular RJ Chinju.
Commenting on the summit, Sairee Chahal, Founder & CEO, SHEROES said “We have built a network of dreams, and the first mass-scale platform emerging out of India, that’s exclusively for women. Our counseling helpline on the SHEROES app is a deep listening service. This is empathy-tech at work! ”
Jenil Dholakia opened the day with singing bowls, while Sonam Kalra & The Sufi Gospel Project closed the day on a spiritual note. Percussionist Tarit Pal and slam poet Navaldeep, also performed at the day-long event.
A special highlight of the event was the crèche-in-a-box training workshops hosted by KLAY Prep Schools and DayCare, to support women looking to launch their own crèches, a definite step towards supporting professional parents, post amendments to the Maternity Act. To make the event more inclusive for mothers in the SHEROES community, KLAY had set up an onsite crèche. Other partners comprised CNBC TV18 as TV Partner, Wittyfeed as Digital Partner, Just Herbs as the Gifting Partner, and RED FM as the Radio partner.
