  • Swachhta Hi Seva Cleanliness Fortnight 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
    The ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) Cleanliness Fortnight, 2018 is being observed from 15.09.2018 to 02.10.2018 in Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway. A variety of programmes were organised at various places over the Division. Awareness campaigns, cleanliness activities, Shram-dhaans, etc. marked the fortnight long event.

    A programme was held at Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station today (02.10.2018) to mark the conclusion of this fortnight-long event. Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, Dr. Mary Mathew, Chief Medical Superintendent, Thiruvananthapuram Division and Dr. Rajesh Chandran, Station Director, Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station participated in the programme. Railway officials, staff, students and passengers also participated in the programme.

    Addressing the gathering, Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division, said that improving and maintaining cleanliness should be an ongoing activity. He expressed confidence that with the involvement of students and young people, the state of cleanliness would see a remarkable improvement. Dr. Mary Mathew, Chief Medical Superintendent, Thiruvananthapuram Division stressed that passengers and the public at large should be made more aware of the importance of cleanliness and each individual should contribute to the improvement of cleanliness.

    A ‘Swachhta Pledge’ was administered by Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division. Railway officials, staff, students, passengers and others present took the pledge. Students of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram staged a ‘Nukkad Natak’ (Street Play) stressing the importance of reducing waste and following clean practices at railway stations and trains. Employees of Hycinth hotel and National Service Scheme Volunteers had gathered in large numbers and engaged themselves in cleaning the surroundings of the station and tree plantation activities.

    On the occasion of the concluding day of Swachhta programme, a free eye camp and cataract surgery camp, in association with Lions Club International and SM CSI Medical College has been organised at Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station.

    Later, Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division visited the Railway Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram Pettah. Cleanliness activities were undertaken at the hospital and at Thiruvananthapuram pettah station and DRM planted tree saplings to mark the occasion.
    Similar activities are being undertaken throughout the Division today as part of the Swachhta Campaign.

    Various activities and efforts aimed at creating awareness and improving cleanliness have been undertaken during this period of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’. These activities have been carried out with the involvement and support of not only railway officials and staff but also students, volunteers, members of private organisations and the public at large.
