JAMMU:
Amid soaring tensions following the recent terror strike in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives, Pakistan on Friday morning resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations at multiple locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reliable defence sources, Pakistani troops opened fire using small arms to target Indian forward posts, particularly in the Leepa Valley region of Kashmir, among a few other sensitive sectors along the border.
“There were incidents of small arms firing at certain locations along the LoC, initiated by Pakistani forces. Our troops responded with equal vigour, and the situation was brought under control. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported on the Indian side,” said a senior intelligence official while speaking.
The fresh round of firing comes in the backdrop of heightened hostility between the two neighbours following the Pahalgam terror attack, which Indian security agencies have attributed to Pakistan-sponsored terror groups. The brazen attack on unarmed tourists at the scenic Kashmir destination has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for strong diplomatic and military action.
Security has been further tightened across the LoC and hinterland regions, with the Indian Army remaining on high alert to thwart any further misadventures from across the border. The Defence Ministry has yet to release an official statement on the ceasefire breach, but insiders confirm that retaliatory measures are being calibrated to ensure the safety of both civilian and military establishments in the border areas.
With diplomatic ties already under strain, this latest provocation is likely to draw a stern response from New Delhi in the coming days.
