THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The four-day zonal competitions of ‘India Skills Kerala 2018’, jointly organised by Industrial Training Department and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) across the state, will conclude on Saturday (April 14).
The competitions, inaugurated by Labour, Skills and Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan here on April 11, were held in three zonal centres in the state, offering a platform for scores of youth to showcase their technical prowess and skills while vying for attractive prizes. The highlights of Friday included competitions in automobile (MMV) and Painting held at ITI Chackai , with 29 of the 38 registered contestants participating in the former.
While the Central Zone competitions were held at Government ITI, Chalakkudy, Malikkadavu Government ITI in Kozhikode hosted the event in North Zone. Ten winners in each trade at the district-level are competing at the zonal-level.
Winners and runners-up of each trade from the zones will compete at the three-day grand finale, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Marine Grounds, Kochi on April 28. The winners at the state-level competitions will get Rs one lakh as prize money and the runners-up Rs 50,000. They will also get a trophy and a citation.
A consolation prize of Rs 10,000 will be given to the participants, who make it to the state-level competitions. The event, the first to be organized on such a major scale in the state, offers a total of Rs 38 lakh as prize money for the winners.
The state-level winners will represent Kerala at the ‘India Skills 2018’ planned in July, which will pave the way for their participation in the 45th World Skills Competition in Kazan, Russia in 2019.
